Readers Share Their First Games

Reader JM writes:
I was thinking my first game was Olympic Decathalon on the Apple II, that was in 84 I believe.
You got started a lot earlier.
What was YOUR first game?  When was that? Games Jim Played wants to know!

  1. I can't really remember my first game, being born in '77 my family had computers and video game consoles since I was 2. The earliest that come to mind for me were both for the Atari 2600. Combat, and Pole Position. I couldn't tell you which one came first, or what year it was. I don't have many memories from when I was less than 5.

  2. We had our original Pong console in the early 80's if not the late 70's... Do Mattel LED sports games count?

  3. My family eschewed technology, so I think my first game was probably at the elementary school on their Apples. Definitely Oregon Trail, but I also remember really enjoying the Olympic games mentioned already and possibly Jungle Hunt?

  4. I've got strong memories of the Activision titles for the 2600. Kaboom (a zen like experience if you smoked enough weed), Barnstorming, Stampede and of course Pitfall. Also, I seem to remember Jim and Villa feeding a 486sx PC waaayyy too many 5 1/2" floppies to load a game of X-Wing? (let alone getting the sound card to work!)

Jim, love the blog great stuff.
    Take care
    Eric
